How Our Repair Service Helps Customers Extend Product Life, Reduce Waste, and Protect Their Investment

When a protective textile product has worked hard for years—whether in a commercial environment or at home and has started showing signs of wear, or has been accidentally damaged, many customers assume replacement is the only option.

When a protective textile product has worked hard for years—whether in a commercial environment or at home and has started showing signs of wear, or has been accidentally damaged, many customers assume replacement is the only option.

It’s one of the questions we are being asked more often by both commercial and private customers is:

“Can My Canvas Cover Be Repaired Instead of Replaced?”

In many cases, the answer is yes—your cover may have plenty of life left in it.

At Canvasman Ltd, we have always believed that true performance is measured over time. It is not simply about how a product performs on day one. It is about how it protects, endures, and continues delivering through years of real-world use. That’s why we design our products with longevity engineered in from the beginning.

“What Types of Covers Can Be Repaired?”

We carry out repairs on a wide range of canvas and technical textile covers, from small domestic repairs to large-scale commercial refurbishment work.

This includes:

  • Split or failed seams
  • Structural stitching repairs
  • Reinforcement of high-stress areas
  • Broken straps, buckles, fixings, and fastenings
  • Rebinding, resealing, and re-finishing
  • Window panel replacement
  • Zip repairs or replacements
  • Bespoke modifications where operational needs have changed

Every repair is carried out by skilled makers who understand how protective textile products are engineered—and how to restore them with the same precision they were originally built with.

“Can You Repair Covers You Didn’t Manufacture?”

In many cases, yes.

We regularly assess covers made by other manufacturers. Whether repair is possible depends on:

  • The type of material used
  • The age and overall condition of the cover
  • UV exposure and environmental wear
  • The extent of structural damage
  • Whether the product is economically repairable

The easiest way to find out is to send us photographs before booking.

We can usually advise quickly whether the product appears salvageable and whether repair is likely to be cost effective.

“How Much Does a Repair Cost?”

One of customers’ biggest concerns is, understandably, cost.

The honest answer is, every repair is different and therefore individually priced.

Our repairs are charged by the minute and based on time required and materials used

The time taken to do a repair can be affected by the complexity of the work and accessibility of the damaged area, but it does mean that you only pay for the work your product actually needs.

Do I Need a Quote Before Booking?

No, in fact, the most cost-effective option is often to simply book the repair in by following our guide below.

However, if you prefer to understand likely costs before committing, we also offer an inspection service. A fee for this service applies.

This covers:

  • Full condition assessment
  • Identification of repairable areas
  • Advice on whether repair is commercially worthwhile
  • An estimated repair cost where possible

“What Do I Need to Do Before Sending My Cover for Repair?”

Contact us with details of the nature of the repair and photographs of the damaged area. This will give us an idea of how much time to schedule to do the work and if any specialist material or components need to be ordered in.

We will then provide you with a date the repair work can be carried out.

This is important.

All covers must be clean and completely dry before arriving with us.

This is not just about presentation—it is essential for:

  • Safe handling by our machinists
  • Protecting specialist machinery
  • Achieving reliable repair results
  • Preventing contamination of materials

Unfortunately, if a cover arrives dirty or wet, we may be unable to proceed with the repair.

“How Can I Reduce My Repair Costs?”

Because repairs are typically labour based, a little preparation can make a real difference.

To help reduce workshop time—and your final invoice—we recommend:

  • Clearly marking damaged areas
  • Adding labels or tape to identify faults
  • Including photographs or a simple sketch
  • Folding or packing the cover so repair areas are easy to access
  • Providing clear written instructions

The clearer the brief, the quicker we can get to work.

“Are There Risks When Repairing Older Covers?”

This is an important question—and one many companies avoid answering directly.

The honest answer is, yes, there can be risks when repairing older covers.

Age, UV exposure, moisture, and general wear can weaken:

  • Stitching
  • Fabric coatings
  • Zips
  • Window panels
  • Fastening points

Sometimes these weaknesses only become visible once the repair process begins.

For example:

  • Window panels may scratch during repair work
  • Older materials may have shrunk or warped over time
  • Existing stitching may reveal age-related weakness once tension is reapplied

Because of this, all repairs are undertaken on a best endeavours basis.

While we will always treat your product with care and professional attention, we cannot guarantee against age-related material failure during the repair process.

If we identify significant concerns during inspection, we will always discuss these with you before proceeding.

“How Can I Help My Cover Last Longer?”

Repair is only one part of extending product life.

Regular maintenance can significantly improve long-term performance.

We recommend:

  • Replacing broken fixings and fastenings as soon as possible
  • Cleaning covers regularly
  • Using appropriate reproofing treatments
  • Storing covers dry when not in use
  • Addressing small repairs before they become major ones

If you need replacement fittings, care products, or advice, our team is always happy to help.
