We manufacture bespoke canopies in a range of fabrics with a wide variety of colours. Previous projects have included, garden canopies, restaurant and pub canopies, and special event canopies. All can be designed to either pop up and down or to be in place semi-permanently. We are happy to measure and fit for you or, we can work from your dimensions and supply for you to fit yourself. A mileage charge is applied to projects outside a 30-mile radius of our workshop, but our measuring and fit service are available nationwide.
We can make your canopy fit your existing structure, or we can help you design and manufacture a new timber or steel structure, which can either be free-standing or attached to your house or building.
We design your canopy so that it can withstand the varied weather conditions of the UK and so they certainly require good tension and enough run off to shed water. But, as most canopies are fabric, they will not like the weight of snow loading. We recommend taking them down for the winter months, or heating them and clearing the snow before it can do any damage.
Tension
Tensioning is really important, we achieve this on our canopies by locking off one edge of the canopy with a mechanical fixing such as Turnbuttons or Kedar track and selecting adjustable fixings on the other 3 sides to create the tension. We prefer to use our adjustable tension straps spaced every 25mm but we do have other tensioning methods if this doesn’t suitable for your project.
The angle of the canopy or Pitch
It is important to design the canopy with enough runoff for rainwater. The required angle depends on the span and the fabric used, but canvas requires a greater degree of runoff than other solid materials. Ordinarily, we look for a minimum of around 15 degrees. Please bear this in mind when designing your structure. If you have an existing structure and you are unsure, feel free to contact our sales team, who can advise on suitability and suggest ways in which it could be adapted.
Size
We can manufacture pretty much any size or shape of the canopy, however, any single span over 3m is difficult to sufficiently tension by hand. Canopies with a greater span than 3m will likely require a more substantial mechanical tensioning method, which will require more engineering. If you have a ridge on your structure them 3m on either side of the ridge is fine.
We can also offer a range of Side panels to go with your canopy, which will give you outdoor living space all year round. Please have a look at our “side panels ” section.
