In 1996, based in Leeds, Chris Salisbury founded Canvasman in the tiny cellar of his Victorian terraced house. From its humble beginnings as a one-man-band, the company has since grown to a dedicated team of expert designers, cutters, sewers and fitters, now based in the charming Yorkshire town of Baildon.
Notably, In 2015 we won the award of “Best Company Culture”, at the ‘Europe, Middle East, and Africa region business excellence awards’.
As well as boat covers, we also design and manufacture shade sails, shop canopies, vehicle Covers and much more. Furthermore, we’re now able to offer a full refit and upholstery service to complement our covers.

2022 we were given the award for Small Family Business of The Year UK

Previously, in 2015 we won the ‘Business Excellence Award’ for ‘Best Company Culture’.
As the managing director, Chris’s role is to oversee all aspects of the company from planning and finance to HR and the supply chain, whilst also still being involved in the sales and design process and occasionally liaising with the site workers. Additionally, Chris works on projects to improve the products, processes and systems.
After studying Applied Arts at University, Fran Salisbury met Canvasman founder, future husband and business partner Chris Salisbury. Now, as the Human Resources manager at Canvasman, she is responsible for the refining of processes, improved procedures and the training of our staff.
James Ineson has been with Canvasman since 2003, as Design Supervisor he has enabled us to move from time-consuming physical methods to efficient and consistently precise patterning.
Alison Gray has worked at Canvasman since 2018 , initially working more with general admin she is now Sales Supervisor.
Em has been with Canvasman since 2012, starting as a sewing machinist making upholstery she is now the production manager.
Lukasz joined Canvasman in 2015, initially trained in upholstery fitting, he is now supervisor of the ‘cutting and packing department’.
